Each month we read a classic novel or a book on craft—not just to talk about plot points, but to dissect how they're built. You’ll practice spotting what makes dialogue ring true, how pacing creates tension, how structure carries theme, and how sentences earn their rhythm.
We'll train your eye so your own pages become sharper, tighter, and more deliberate.
Frequency: Once per month
Size: 10-20 writers
The Business of Writers is a series for anyone serious about turning words into income. Learn how publishing really works: contracts, agents, rights, and money.
You’ll walk away knowing how to protect your work, negotiate from strength, and actually get paid for the art you’ve fought to finish.
Frequency: Every six weeks
Size: 8-12 writers
Sure, no deadlines mean less stress, but it also means we can work on things forever without finishing them. That's where Members Only Writing Sessions come in. This is a dedicated, structured gathering exclusively for members of ATX Writing Club who are serious about finishing what they start.
If you want to be a part of our dedicated inner-circle of writers, this one’s for you. Expect to meet about 30 writers of all experience levels here. Some are traditionally published authors. Others work in media, or write for magazines, and still others are doodlers and daydreamers trying to get back in touch with their creative side. You must be a member to join.

Reading your work aloud changes how you hear it. This seasonal reading night gives writers a low-pressure room to share 5–7 minutes of work, listen to other members, and see how the page lands in real time. Bring an essay, story, chapter, poem, or unfinished piece, or simply come to listen. Names are drawn at random, readings run for one hour, and the night ends with conversation.
Frequency: Once per season
Size: 18-20 writers
Publishing can feel opaque from the outside. This seasonal industry session gives writers a clear, practical look at how books actually move through the system, from agents and editorial notes to contracts, marketing, publicity, bookstore placement, and subsidiary rights. Led by author and former Penguin Random House editor Leila Sales, the evening combines an inside look at the publishing business with open Q&A and conversation among serious Austin writers.
